IRobot: a new skin, and a new trick

Asked by Rick on October 23, 2026 - 1 reply

Hi everyone,

Starting with version 6.0.36, your skins can have see-through tiles. If a tile picture has transparent areas, the front page background now shows through them. The tile can be any shape you like: a robot, a glass panel, a logo cut out of its background. It no longer has to be a square card.

What's new

  • A tile picture (PNG or WebP) with transparency is drawn without the dark card behind it and without a shadow, so only your shape is visible.
  • This works in every front page effect, including the reflections in 3D Carousel and Cover Flow.
  • When you move around with a keyboard or game controller, the focus highlight follows the outline of the shape instead of drawing a square around it.
  • Normal, non-transparent tiles look exactly as before.

Try it in your own skin

  • Go to Administration → Appearance → Make your own look.
  • Open the Tiles tab and choose a picture with transparency for any of the tiles.
  • Press Try it to see it on the front page, then Publish when you are happy.

Tip: you can also zoom a tile picture out so there is some empty space around your shape. That space becomes transparent too.

New skin: IRobot

To show what is possible, we have made a new skin called IRobot, built around see-through tiles. It also comes with its own background videos, fonts and intro music. You can download it right now:

Administration → Appearance → Get more skins → IRobot → Get

The skin is added straight away and ready to use.

As always, we would love to see what you build with this. Feel free to share screenshots of your own skins.

I will try and give this a go before I move my arcade cabinet, things have changed for myself and I am getting a new arcade cabinet and possibly two later on in the future.

So I am stopping the Jukebox project for now, and seeing options when I get the new machines.

The touchscreen might be out of the window and just joystick control.

I might possibly get a third license, but I only need a home license as I don't have bill collectors.

The home license though, it would be good if you could have a custom name and logo like you do on a commercial license, so if I do go to a three home set up. I of course do not want to pay $149 for commercial features such as payment that I will never use.

However, having a standard logo across my network is a nice feature to have.

I do have a theme that I want to create but that will be in the future now, as always plans change.

Regards

Mark
