Sorting Albums by Year

Hi @D2E,

Yes, you can do that, and you don't need to change any titles.

• Open Administration and go to Music Center.
• Turn on "Order albums by artist".
• Then turn on "Show year in album subtitle", which appears just below it.

Albums are now grouped by artist, and each artist's albums are listed by year with the oldest first. The year comes from your music files' own information, so nothing in your titles or files changes. The year is only shown on screen in the small line under each album (for example "[2006] Greatest Hits"). Albums without a year are listed first for that artist.

Hey Rick,

Yes, this option is what I was referring to in the first sentence, I'm looking to sort them WITHOUT adding the year to the title. I don't want every album showing up as '(2006) Greatest Hits', I just want the title. ZenPoint V5 did this inherently. Meaning it sorted all albums by year without the need to include the year in the album title.

Any chance of adding this in a future update?

Hi D2E,

We have just checked this in version 5 again, and it actually works the same way there. In version 5 the chronological order comes from the option "View [year] [album] by artist sort", and that same option is what puts the year in front of the album name, for example "[1992] Bigger, Better, Faster, More!". With that option turned off, version 5 lists each artist's albums alphabetically by album name.

The new version follows the same rule: with "Order albums by artist" alone, an artist's albums are listed alphabetically, and when you also turn on "Show year in album subtitle", they are listed by year and the year is shown in the line under the artist.

Just to be clear, the year is only added on screen. Your album titles and music files are never changed.

We understand that sorting by year without showing it would be nice, and we have noted your wish.
